Fishing for Jobs
Diary of a Programmer 87
here I am on the computer again
putting the wings on my lure
getting the legs bent at just the right angle
to make it look like a katydid
before I thread it through the line
tie a perfect little knot to fix it there
so that when I cast it way out in the water
that is tumbling down the already fished
for thousands of years now polluted river
drawn down from the mountains to the sea
I can attract these delicious fish swimming
up the stream and down the stream
mindless hunters powered by AI
while I wade out into the middle in my waiters
trying as hard as I can to relax and enjoy
the crisp mountain air and the sharp sun
that cuts through the clouds not often enough
just trying to let go of the stress
of everyday life and be there in nature
savouring the process and trying not to focus
on the end or the catch and trying to let go
of the attachment to ever nabbing a fish
while my stomach rumbles straight
through lunch and dinner
